STAFFORDSHIRE DESCRIBED BY JOHN SPEED, 1676 EDITION.

STAFFORD COUNTIE AND TOWNE WITH THE ANCIENT CITIE OF LICHFEILD DESCRIBED. 

A highly decorative copper line engraving on paper originally produced to accompany John Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine" published in 1611. The present map comes from the Basset & Chiswell edition of 1676. A very desirable map of the County with Shields, Royal Arms and an inset plans of Stafford and Lichfield.

Measures 380 x 510 mm. Good condition. see photo. some strengthening on reverse of centrefold and one or two closed marginal tears.
